Emerald Star

Emerald Star is the third book in the Hetty Feather trilogy. Changing her name to Emerald, Hetty journeys through towns and towns, with only one intention – to find her father. Leaving her mother's death bed, she travels to a small fisheries town where she meets her father, his wife and their two children.

Emerald tries to settle in with her father, but it is obvious that she is not welcome. Her father's wife and children don't want her in their home and Emerald feels even more worried about whether she made the right choice. Just at the right time her long-ago sweetheart calls her back to her foster village. Leaving her father, she travels back into her childhood town.

Nothing there feels right either, with both her foster parents ill. She befriends Janet, a girl of her age. But Janet has a deep secret that she keeps from Emerald. A wonderful surprise befalls Emerald as a circus arrives at the town. Full of joy and delight, Emerald meets little Diamond and reunites with her circus friends. As Emerald becomes more attached to the circus, she determines what she wants to do in life.

A brilliant end-of-series novel, the sort with just the right amount of tragedy, love, adventure and excitement. Strongly recommended for children 9+.
